Friday marks the autumn edition of the always-awesome Bay View Gallery Night, but Alive And Fine and The Vanguard have decided to join forces to kick off the festivities a few days early with a surprise outdoor screening of The Shining. The free pop-up screening will take place on Vanguard’s patio at sundown tonight (Tuesday, September 26).
The impromptu event will tie into a Shining-themed BVGN exhibition at Alive And Fine called Alive And Fine Shines that will run from 5-10 p.m. on Friday, September 29.
“I’ve been thinking about different kinds of gallery night ideas for a long time and I started obsessively watching The Shining a few years back,” Smith says. “I just think it’s a magical, classic movie that just brings out a lot of different things that are perfect in every way.”
Alive And Fine Shines will feature textile art, digital art, installations, and a curated selection of vintage clothing and home goods that are inspired by the movie.
“And the book!” Smith says. “And the book.”
