We’re calling it! The Marcus Center snow pile is gone

Even though spring has been pretty shy about making its presence fully known here in Milwaukee so far, apparently it has been nice enough outside to do some serious damage to a certain snow pile. That’s right, folks! The Marcus Center snow pile is dead and melted. Time of death: sometime either yesterday or today.

To be honest, this isn’t my beat, but Milwaukee Record snow pile correspondent Matt Wild is out of town right now and the news doesn’t stop dammit! If you recall, Matt wrote an article in late February asking readers to cast their votes for when they think Marcus Center snow pile will melt. As of March 24, it was still hanging clinging to life…barely. I stopped by this afternoon to confirm what I already knew in my heart. The pile is gone.

According to Matt, in all the years of him keeping tabs on the pile’s status, this is the earliest it has ever melted. Climate change strikes again, it seems. Congrats to the 42 of you who voted for “Sometime in March” in our poll. You win nothing. And in the possible (if not probable) instance we get more snow this spring, we’ll probably just do another poll for Snow Pile 2.0 or something.

The Marcus Center snow pile might be gone, but its spirit lives on in the form of this snazzy T-shirt that’s still available for purchase.

MATT’S NOTE: Wow! A new record! In 2024, the Marcus Center snow pile bit the big one on April 15. In 2023, April 30. In both 2022 and 2021, April 8. I probably have records going even further back, but exact dates for the past four years is sad enough.
