It’s almost the 20th day of April and you know what that means, riiiiiiiight?! Yeah, you know! Love it, hate it, or feel absolutely indifferent to it, this unofficial holiday is reason for a sizable portion of the population to celebrate.

Even though Wisconsin will absolutely be the last state in the Midwest to legalize recreational marijuana thanks to the do-nothing State Legislature ghouls withholding progress in spite of its undeniable economic, societal, and health benefits, that isn’t stopping a few Milwaukee-area businesses, bands, and creatives from enjoying this April 20 (and the days ahead of it, since this April 20 coincides with Easter Sunday). Here’s our semi-informative guide to 4/20 events and specials that are happening in the area this week.

Friday, April 18

Pass The Vibez @ Canni Hemp Co.
Swing by Canni Hemp Co.’s infusion bar and cafe in Walker’s Point for a 420 edition of its monthly “Pass The Vibez” party. Turtle Sooup and DJ Abstract will provide a steady diet of afrobeat, hip-hop, R&B, and house music and Canni will take care of the drink specials and “good vibez” from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Friday Night Freak Show: ‘Up In Smoke’ @ Oriental Theatre
With WMSE’s April installment of its Friday Night Freak Show scheduled to take place in the vicinity of this smoker’s holiday, the station decided to lean into it with a screening of the classic 1978 Cheech & Chong stoner comedy Up In Smoke at The OT on Friday, April 18.

Head Space High Notes @ Third Space Brewing
Third Space Brewing will celebrate 4/20 weekend with the return of its Head Space High Notes event, which will feature the limited release of its new Blueberry Basil-flavored 10mg Head Space infused seltzer. In addition to the new beverage launch, the brewery will host the Tots On The Street and Twisted Plants food trucks and music will be covered by Wise Jennings and and Chicken Wire Empire.

Suns Out, Buds Out @ Canni Hemp Co.
Want more 4/20 pre-party fun? Canni Hemp and The Culture Plug have you covered with Suns Out, Buds Out. From noon to 6 p.m., Canni’s infusion bar and cafe will feature “good vibes, dope drinks,” and more. Beyond Canni’s wide selection of alcohol, infused, and caffeinated drinks, Not Bad Foods, Sauced MKE, and Midwest Sad will have food available for purchase. There will be music bingo from 12-3 p.m. before DJ Lolo hits the decks from 3-6 p.m. You can also expect free samples, giveaways, games, and more surprises.

Joint Session @ Canni Hemp Co.
After the store’s other April 19 event is over, Canni will be joining forces with Gems Only to produce a multi-faceted 4/20 Eve happening called Joint Session. From 8:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m., Canni’s Walker’s Point infusion bar and cafe will be abuzz with activity. There will be music curated by DJ Gemini Gilly and Mahdi Atif. There will also be raffles, a free 419 gift from Canni, and food and drinks available for purchase on-site.

Giographix + Food Specials @ Cheba Hut
Self-proclaimed stoner sandwich chain Cheba Hut will partake in 4/20 festivities by having Giographix playing music in its Oakland Ave. store from 7-10 p.m. Both Milwaukee locations will also offer a special on both April 19 and April 20 in which Nugs will be $4.20 all day and will come with a commemorative 4/20 Frisbee while supplies last.

Phun + Spare Change Trio @ The Cooperage
The Cooperage is getting in on the holiday-adjacent fun with, well, Phun. Wisconsin’s premiere Phish tribute band will be joined by accomplished reggae outfit Spare Change Trio for a night of 4/20-approved music…complete with a didgeridoo.

Sunday, April 20

Wake N’ Bake Elevated Yoga @ Canni Hemp Co.
Though it’s usually held the fourth Sunday of each month, Canni and MKE Yoga Social are bumping their Wake N’ Bake Yoga up a week to line up with 4/20. Register using the app, then show up at 10:30 a.m. The class will begin at 11 a.m. and the price includes samples of Canni goods.
