Milwaukee Record is working in partnership with Urban Cat Coalition—a local organization that’s dedicated to creating a no kill community by humanely reducing the cat population in the Milwaukee area through targeted trap-neuter-return (TNR)—to help find loving homes for area cats. Each week, we plan to highlight a feline friend that’s currently up for adoption by naming it “Milwaukee Record’s Cat Of The Week.” This week: Siblings and besties Amy and Leonard.

Meet Leonard and Amy! Or “Lemmy” combined for short. These two are siblings and besties. Leonard is the gray tabby and Amy is the tuxedo gal. This duo has seen some rough times and are a bit shy, but when they warm up, they are absolutely the best! Their big beautiful eyes will have you believing everything you say is the most interesting thing they’ve ever heard.

Leonard is the more outgoing of the two. He is half lap cat. He would like to set his front paws on you and loaf. He wants to be pressed up against you on the regular—whether laying on your feet or leaning against your legs while you stand in the kitchen—and he wants you to know he is there for you, and you for him.

Also, if you could just dangle your hand within face smooshing range that would be great, thank you. He is really playful and enjoys his ball track tower the most. He will even pretend he is done playing with it and use the element of surprise to pounce back and get that ball spinning.

Amy is very shy to start, but so chill. She just wants to sit a few feet away and observe at all times. If you offer her a hand, she will smoosh her cheek on it and then show off her belly and give you a slow blink. She spends a lot of time upside down and being goofy. She’s rolls around when she’s happy and to let you know she likes you…from a foot or two away. That gap will shorten as she adjusts to all the newness. Suddenly, one day you’ll feel her soft fur brush against your legs.

Amy and Leonard love to snooze and snuggle during the day and run around and play in the evenings, often booping their foreheads together because they’re best friends forever.

These two, unfortunately, came from an abusive home. They are the sweetest pair, but it has caused them to take a little longer to adjust. They’d love a safe cubby or hiding spot to start in their new home. Their adopter would need to put on their patience cap and sit on the floor with them slow blinking and sweet talking to let them know they are safe. Just a few minutes each day or so that first week should do the trick.

It’s sad and cute all at the same time, but Amy is so brave, when you first try to pet Leonard she will throw herself in front of him to take that scary first hand motion and to protect her best bud by leaning into the pets herself. She’s a hero. I’m not crying, you are! Leonard and Amy are looking for a quiet home ready to adopt the two best friends that anyone could have.
