• Please enjoy (?) this short, simple, and depressing reminder: East Side landmark Beans & Barley, 1901 E. North Ave., will close its doors for good on January 31. That’s two days from now. So, like Tom Waits sang on one of those final Letterman shows in 2015, take one last look. We did, on Thursday. (Oh, and eat something, too!)

• Please enjoy (!) this short, simple, and HAPPY reminder: Smokin’ Jack’s BBQ is OPEN at 2311 N. Murray Ave., a mere block away from Beans. We haven’t stopped in quite yet, but it’s good to see something in the former Izzy Hops space. (Smokin’ Jack’s owner Jack Holt plans to open a second concept in the space next door, which was formerly home to L’Incontro.)
