Milwaukee Record is working in partnership with Urban Cat Coalition—a local organization that’s dedicated to creating a no kill community by humanely reducing the cat population in the Milwaukee area through targeted trap-neuter-return (TNR)—to help find loving homes for area cats. Each week, we plan to highlight a feline friend that’s currently up for adoption by naming it “Milwaukee Record’s Cat Of The Week.” This week: a gentle giant known as Mr. Big.
Mr. Big (a.k.a. Mr. Floof, Big Boy, Mr. Mats, and Moreno) is a gentle giant who loves scritches behind his ears and anchoring you to your couch. We’re guessing he’s middle-aged due to his chill nature. He’s just a big, sweet, poofy guy who wants some lovin’ and big dish of chow. His new guardian should know how to care for thick hair, brush him often and be prepared to have him professionally groomed periodically. There’s just no way for him to maintain his majesty all on his own. And, really, why should he have to do all the work himself?! He’s a king!
Backstory: Initially, we figured he was just a neighbor’s wanderer because he wasn’t afraid of people at all. Once we started petting him, though, we realized he must have been abandoned or lost because his fur was terribly matted and full of burrs. Also, he was super hungry. He is such a sweetheart and we could tell the mats were hurting him, so we grabbed him up for a stray hold at animal control (MADACC) while we tried to find his owner. Unfortunately, even though he has a microchip, they did not respond to reclaim him.
Mr. Big is a pretty laid back dude, so we think he would love a home where he could hang out with his peeps and watch the world go by from a good window seat or two. You must commit to keeping him indoors, because his fluffy fur isn’t good for the outdoors. We don’t know if he gets along with dogs, but he has been fine with other cats. So with a slow intro, he’d be cool with another older, non-dominant cat in the house.
