Believe it or not, summer is (theoretically) just around the corner. And with it, Milwaukee County Parks’ summer pool season! It’s almost time to pool it, Milwaukee!

Ahem. Anyway, thanks to a 15% increase in the number of lifeguards this year—itself thanks to a raise in hourly wages and added summer bonuses—Milwaukee County Parks will open two aquatic centers, two deep-well outdoor pools, 16 wading pools, and seven splash pads in 2023. Here they are, complete with opening and closing dates. (Find specific hours and fees HERE.)

“We’re excited to be able to open our premiere aquatic centers and more splash pads and wading pools compared to our 2022 season,” says Milwaukee County Parks Executive Director Guy Smith in a press release. “This will give our community more access to cool off at our Milwaukee County Park facilities this summer.”

Want to be a Milwaukee County Parks lifeguard this summer? You have one more chance: An “accelerated session, ideal for strong swimmers, people home from college looking for extra work, or folks who have other lifeguard certifications” will take place Tuesday, May 23 through Thursday, May 25, from 5-7 p.m. each night, at the Pulaski Indoor Pool. “Applicants will need to take part in the training sessions each day and pass a test on Saturday, May 27 at 8 a.m.,” explains Milwaukee County Parks. “The hourly rate for lifeguards for the 2022 season will start at $16.79.”

County beaches are available for summer aquatic fun, too, though no life guards will be present. Those guard-less beaches are Doctors Park in Fox Point; Bender Park Beach in Oak Creek; Bradford Beach in Milwaukee; and Grant Park in South Milwaukee.

Here’s “Gettin’ In” from Pool It! It’s a Peter song and it’s secretly a banger.
