MILWAUKEE BUCKS AND J. JEFFERS & CO. PARTNER FOR BLOCK 5 DEVELOPMENT IN DEER DISTRICT

Mixed-Use Building Featuring Residences and Commercial Spaces Breaking Ground in 2025

MILWAUKEE (Nov. 13, 2023) – This morning at GATHER at Deer District, leadership of the Milwaukee Bucks and J. Jeffers & Co. unveiled ambitious plans for the transformation of Block 5 within Milwaukee’s thriving Deer District. At the forefront of this collaborative venture and delivering the announcement were Bucks and Fiserv Forum President Peter Feigin and J. Jeffers & Co. CEO Joshua Jeffers, who provided details about an innovative five-story mixed-use development set to redefine urban living in downtown Milwaukee. They were joined by Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, who shared their words of support for this important new addition.

The development, which is yet to be named, features a cutting-edge building that seamlessly integrates residences and commercial spaces, designed to cater to the dynamic lifestyle of the city’s young urban dwellers.

“We envision a vibrant, multi-use experience, driven by residential life and enhanced by recreational and commercial spaces throughout the building,” said Jeffers.

With an emphasis on modernity and rich amenities, the 210 apartment units will encompass studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom residences. Beyond the living spaces, the development promises a Live/Work/Play experience for residents, featuring a rooftop terrace with views of Fiserv Forum, green spaces, outdoor balconies and lobby hospitality. Adding further amenities, 27,000 square feet of mixed-use space is planned. Meanwhile, the practical needs of residents will be addressed with a dedicated parking structure.

“We sought a partner that would join us in our vision to keep enhancing the vibrant future of Deer District and downtown Milwaukee,” Feigin said. “We are thrilled to work with a local firm who already has shown a dedication to investing in Milwaukee.”

The Bucks and J. Jeffers & Co. are not new to partnering. The former Journal Sentinel complex was transformed by J. Jeffers & Co. and the Bucks were among many surrounding neighbors that supported the project, helping it to become a reality. In December 2022, J. Jeffers & Co. completed a $65 million redevelopment of a full city block that had formerly housed the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The former Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel buildings were converted into 336 apartment units, which achieved stabilized occupancy last month. Drawing on the success and experience of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel complex, J. Jeffers & Co. recognizes the need for additional housing in Deer District.

The partners plan to begin construction in mid-2025. Information regarding the unique activation of the ground level commercial space is expected in early 2024. The project will be another positive addition to Deer District.
