Back in June, we buzzed about Joy Coughs, the latest record from Milwaukee post-punk group Vile Bees. (Say the name of the record a few times fast!) “Joy Coughs is a big—and big sounding—album stuffed with fantastic performances,” we wrote. “Dan Hanke is a beast on the drums; Kyle Scheuer possesses a voice both powerful and pissed-off; and Michael Marchant, who handles the bulk of the songwriting here, is a razor-sharp post-punk poet.”
Now, the band has released a video for leadoff track “Anime Bodies.” Shot at the Vile Bees practice space by Conan Neutron (he of Conan Neutron & The Secret Friends fame), the clip is a no-nonsense performance video stuffed with subtle touches. (Dig Hanke’s Die Kreuzen T-shirt.) “Who knows what lurks for the lucky?” Scheuer howls on the chorus. Who knows how long you’ll have that chorus stuck in your head!
Oh, and if you haven’t had your fill of the Wisconsin State Fair, check out this Vile Bees video from 2021!
