During last year’s Record Store Day festivities, Milwaukee’s long-running Exclusive Company location (1669 N. Farwell Ave.) was preparing to call it quits after more than 30 years on Milwaukee’s East Side. That Farwell farewell doubled as a fundraiser for Lilliput Records, a new independent record store owned and operated by former Exclusive managers Tanner Musgrove and Brian Kirk, which opened in the same property last June.

For this year’s Record Store Day installment (Saturday, April 22), Lilliput and Milwaukee Record have ambitious plans for a day full of live music, DJ sets, a pop-up cafe, raffles for concert tickets and other goodies, and the chance to get discounts at nearby businesses. Oh, the store will also have some new Record Store Day releases on hand and will be offering sales on a variety of non-RSD releases all day long. There are a lot of aspects of Lilliput’s Record Store Day celebration, so we’re just going to go point-by-point.

If you don’t want to miss out on a limited edition release while in line at your local coffee shop, Lilliput and Nomad Coffee Bar have you covered. First off, Nomad Coffee Bar—located just around the corner from Lilliput—will be open at 6 a.m. so shoppers can stock up on pastries and caffeinated beverages before the record store opens at 7 a.m. Once Lilliput opens, Nomad Coffee Bar will also have a pop-up coffee stand in the store.

From open to close, Lilliput will be alive with on-site DJs and live performances by musicians. Here’s the tentative schedule for all the free all-ages entertainment.

7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. — DJ set by Eric Von Munz of WMSE
9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. DJ set by the Milwaukee Record guys (that’s us!)
12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. — DJ set by Cody Kimb
4 p.m. — Performance by William Seidel (of Dramatic Lovers, Decibully, Camden)
5:15 p.m. — Performance by Heather The Jerk (from Madison)
6:30 p.m. — Performance by Doubter (Milwaukee’s own!)

Lilliput customers will have an opportunity to win a wide variety of prizes throughout the day and evening on April 22. Lucky raffle winners can win things like:

• Tickets to see The New Pornographers at Turner Hall on May 4, Bright Eyes at Pabst Theater on May 10, and The Flaming Lips on June 13, courtesy of Pabst Theater Group.

• “Golden Tickets” to any show at X-Ray Arcade (excluding shows that are sold out).

• Records and other items from Lilliput Records.

• Gift cards to Bandit MKE and Twisted Plants.

• Merchandise from Milwaukee Record and WMSE.

• And more!

Lilliput will offer discounts on a lot of its inventory this Record Store Day. Sales include:

• 10% off new CDs, LPs, and pre-owned LPs
• 25% off pre-owned CDs
• 20% off new DVDs and Blu-rays (excluding special orders)
• 55% off pre-owned DVDs and Blu-rays

(Clearance items and 2023 RSD titles are excluded from sales)

Additionally, some businesses on nearby Brady Street will be offering deals on April 22 when a Lilliput receipt from that day is presented at the time of purchase. Twisted Plants will give a 10% discount and Bandit MKE will offer a 20% discount on Record Store Day. Both Nomad Coffee Bar and Nomad World Pub will offer $1 off orders on Record Store Day when a Lilliput receipt is presented as well.

The first Record Store Day at Lilliput Records is going to be a doozy. Join us there on Saturday, April 22!
