Under his longtime Made Of Oak moniker, former Milwaukeean/Decibully member (and current Sylvan Esso member) Nick Sanborn celebrated the release of his first solo EP, Penumbra, last fall. One of the standout tracks from that EP was “Side Rides,” which came complete with a striking black and white video featuring fellow North Carolina artists Well$ and Professor Toon. But while Well$ and the good Professor were seen rapping throughout the video, their words were left unheard. Until now.
The just-released “Side Lines” remix finally gives voice to the two rappers, who change the once-chilly and haunting track into something more urgent and arresting. As for Sanborn, he’ll be back in his old stomping grounds Friday, April 8, when he brings Made Of Oak to the Cactus Club.
