Ever since the early-2023 dissolution of their previous band, Crawlspace, singer-songwriter Maximiano Janairo (or simply Maximiano) has become a staple of the live Milwaukee music scene. Hell, there have been two live Maximiano records released in the last 12 months alone (Live At Linneman’s and Live At Anodyne).

A full-length Maximiano studio album is due in September; until then, dig into the just-released slow-burn single “You Have A Heart In Me.” It features Ellie Jackson on backing vocals and Will Hansen (Old Pup) on pedal steel. It’s about the difficult process of forgiveness. It has lines like “Half in the bag, half in my head / All underground, all things unsaid.” It gives us warm and fuzzy Will Sheff/Okkervil River vibes. It’s lovely and heartbreaking and wonderful.

“You Have A Heart In Me” comes in the wake of “Simple,” another (wonderful) single from Maximiano’s upcoming album. Want to hear both songs live? See Maximiano Thursday, August 1, when they play the Cactus Club with Katy Kirby, Mei Semones, and DJ Kelly Aiglon.

Oh, and you can hear the songs on those live albums, too!
