In late 2024, El Sebas—one half of long-tenured local duo Browns Crew—made a name for himself both in Milwaukee and beyond with Milwacumbia, a genre-melding EP that managed to stitch components of traditional Latin cumbia rhythms with elements of hip-hop to create something that simultaneously honored his Mexican roots and explored exciting modern sounds.
In the wake of that six-song Spanish language release (which earned acclaim on our year-end “Favorite Milwaukee Music” list), El Sebas has kept busy by performing at a wide range of one-off local shows, block parties, and full-fledged festivals ranging from the inaugural Morgan Park Picnic last year to a Summerfest set right before Sean Paul and Anees took the stage this past July. Active as he’s been in a live sense, new recorded material has been limited beyond a 2025 single called “Por Mi Mente” and a track that El Sebas just put out this morning.
Today marks the release of “Sana Sana,” an excellent continuation of El Sebas’ vibrant and distinct Cream City cumbia sound. With self-acknowledged nods to sonidera and cumbiaton subgenres combined with aspects of hip-hop (with lyrics delivered in both Spanish and English this time around), the new single will surely bend your ear, get your toes tapping, and make you excited for whatever is next from El Sebas.
