For the last 15 years, Bay View Neighborhood Association’s Chill On The Hill has brought music to Humboldt Park’s amphitheater every Tuesday between the beginning of June and the end of August. Much like virtually every other festival, block party, music series, and one-off event, Chill On The Hill has been impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. The series—which was originally slated to start June 2 and run through August 25—was at risk of being outright canceled in 2020. And it still is, in fact. However, if conditions improve and circumstances allow, Chill On The Hill’s abbreviated 2020 season could begin as early as July 21.

Today, Chill On The Hill executive director Patty Thompson announced the summer staple’s new projected start date and outlined what’s required in order for that to happen. Here’s the press release:

Chill on the Hill, presented by the Bay View Neighborhood Association in partnership with Milwaukee County Parks, will be delaying the season to hopefully start on July 21st, 2020. This highly popular Tuesday night concert series normally runs from early June until late August and entertains neighbors with crowds up to 3000 people featuring local and original music.

The BVNA is working closely with Milwaukee County to formulate a plan to host Chill on the Hill in a safe and friendly manner. Currently, the State of Wisconsin Badger Bounce Back plan includes large gatherings as part of Phase 3, and will be closely following that guidance.

“Chill has a great line-up planned for the 2020 season, and we will do what we can to host our shows once we get the go-ahead,” said Patty Thompson, Chill on the Hill Executive Director. “We know events like Chill will be needed more than ever, but we will be patient and flexible to make sure we can have these events in a safe and secure way.”

The BVNA will continue to evaluate the July 21st start date in mid-June and will adjust as necessary. Plans are also being considered to extend the season into September. Please watch for more information in the near future.

Stay tuned for more information on the status of the July 21 start date and for Chill On The Hill’s 2020 lineup as the date approaches.
