After a criminally polka-less 2020 (well, other than the delightful tunes of Mike Schneider), Milwaukee is once again primed for some sweet, sweet polka action. Yes, the one-of-a-kind Milwaukee Polka Riot (“America’s first and only alternative polka festival”) is scheduled to return Saturday, August 28. This year, the polka panic will go down at Great Lakes Distillery (616 W. Virginia St., 414-431-8683).
“Whether you like it or not, The Milwaukee Polka Riot is an annual festival showcasing a host of amazing, off-kilter bands you’re unlikely to see all in one place, anywhere else,” reads the fest’s website. And who are those amazing, off-kilter bands? How about Forró For Sho, Sgt. Sauerkraut’s Polka Band, Dead Freddie, Yid Vicious, November Criminals, The Polkanauts, The Polkaholics, and DJ Brümeister?
The action—once again organized by the fine folks behind Milwaukee polka hip-hop band November Criminals—begins at 1 p.m.-ish and goes until 9 p.m.-ish. It’ll be the fest’s fourth annual installment (disregarding 2020, of course). Oh, and it all takes place outside! Oh, and it’s free!
Do you have to wear a mask? Well, you don’t have to, but just be cool, okay? Also, to quote the above video: “GET. FUCKING. VACCINATED.”
