In this installment of our semi-regular Food/Drink Roundup: Vagabond and Hawthorne Coffee Roasters.
• After nearly 12 years in business, downtown taco spot Vagabond, 1122 N. Edison St., will close for good on July 18. The news broke last week via various media outlets; this week, Vagabond said goodbye via Instagram. Here’s the goodbye:
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has walked through our doors, shared a meal, enjoyed a drink, celebrated with us, and made Vagabond part of their lives.
To our guests, our team, and the Milwaukee community: thank you for your support, dedication, and the countless memories we’ve shared over the years.
Vagabond’s last day of service will be Saturday, July 18. We hope you’ll stop in before we close to raise a glass and say goodbye.
With gratitude,
Vagabond

• Vice President JD Vance was in Milwaukee on Wednesday, and so was Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator—and former lead-in to The Steve Wilkos Show—Dr. Oz. The latter stopped in at Hawthorne Coffee Roasters, 4177 S. Howell Ave., and had his photo taken there. Everyone got angry.

Owner Steve Hawthorne took to Facebook to address the photo. Judging by the 8 billion comments, everyone is still angry. Here’s the explanation:
I wanted to address the photo that has been circulating today.
Dr. Oz stopped into our shop. It was not by invitation and we were not notified in advance. I was not there at the time. Staff snapped what they thought was a lighthearted photo behind the counter. The photo was never intended for public distribution.
Unfortunately, it was shared with a local news outlet without my knowledge or permission. We immediately asked that it be removed, but that request was declined.
We welcome every customer who walks through our doors. A photo with a visitor should not be interpreted as a political endorsement or statement.
Hawthorne Coffee has always been about bringing people together over a great cup of coffee and serving our community. We appreciate everyone who has supported us over the years and hope you’ll continue to judge us by the relationships we’ve built, not by a single photo taken out of context.
