A new Cuban coffeehouse plans to bring “a little piece of Cuba” to Milwaukee’s East Town neighborhood.
License applications have been filed for Café Colada, to be located at 825 N. Jefferson St., Suite 150. The site is across the street from Cathedral Square Park, and is the former home of Classy Girl Cupcakes. The office for East Town Association, which produces Cathedral Square events like Jazz In The Park and Bastille Days, also occupies the building. Elsa’s On The Park is just to the north.
A coming-soon website promises “Cuban coffee. Pastelitos. Cocktails. Rum. And a little piece of Cuba in Milwaukee.”
Aaron and Lisett Gersonde are listed as the owners and operators of Café Colada. Aaron Gersonde is a partner in Milwaukee’s Stand Eat Drink Hospitality, which operates Movida in Hotel Madrid, as well as Walker’s Point restaurant and speakeasy Don’s TV & Repair.
Applications describe Café Colada as a “cafe serving coffee, food, beer, wine.” Fifty percent of sales would be from non-alcoholic drinks. Alcoholic drinks and food would make up 25% of sales each. Hours are listed as 6 a.m. – 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
A sample menu includes breakfast items like chorizo croquettes and ham, egg, and cheese sandwiches. Pastries include besitos de coco and guava ring cake. Sandwich examples include a Cuban sandwich, a medianoche, and empanadas.
Pending license approval, Café Colada is projected to open October 31.
