Every Wednesday at noon, Ryan Schleicher, Evan Rytlewski, and Matt Wild take to the WMSE airwaves to discuss all things Milwaukee. This half-hour fun-fest is called The Disclaimer, so named because none of the oft-ridiculous views expressed on the show necessarily reflect the views of the hosts’ employers. Milwaukee music, Milwaukee art, Milwaukee events, and D.I.Y. lawn care tips are frequently discussed—and rarely agreed upon. The Disclaimer: Talk radio for the sane.
There were plenty of big Milwaukee stories last week, but perhaps the biggest was the much-heralded “return” of Pabst Brewing Co. In a breathless press conference held at the brewing giant’s former downtown headquarters, Mayor Tom Barrett proclaimed, “The prodigal son has returned and we welcome you with open arms. This is a love affair that started in 1844, we had a break, but we’re back.” The break he was referring to began in 1996, when Pabst abruptly hit the road and left hundreds of workers without jobs. The return was the announcement that Pabst would be opening a microbrewery and restaurant in the mostly-abandoned complex in 2016. But is that admittedly neat and welcome development really worth the “Pabst returns to Milwaukee!” hype. Ryan, Evan, and Matt take a sip of that question, as well as discuss former Journal Sentinel film and TV critic Duane Dudek’s new micropayment content for Milwaukee Magazine.
