Is it possible that Milwaukee’s homegrown storytelling org, Ex Fabula, has been around for 13 years? It’s true! The nonprofit first arrived on the scene back in 2009, and has been staging inclusive and justice-minded themed “StorySlams” and other events ever since. Still don’t believe us? Behold the four-show, four-neighborhood schedule for Season 14 (!) of Ex Fabula:

Wednesday, September 21
“Good Trouble” @ Arts@Large in Walker’s Point

Thursday, October 13
“Like Magic” @ Sugar Maple in Bay View

Tuesday, November 15
“Legacy & Heirlooms” @ Dandy in Washington Heights

Tuesday, December 6
“Language” @ Garfield’s 502 in Halyard Park

“Ex Fabula’s StorySlams are live events featuring true, personal stories from community members,” explains the group. “Some stories are told onstage, and others are UltraShorts written by audience members and read by the emcee. At each Slam, any attendee can throw their name in the hat for the chance to share a true, personal story on the night’s theme. Stories should be shared in five minutes or less and without any props or notes. All fall 2022 events are competitive Slams, so at the end of the night the audience votes via secret ballot and an Audience Favorite is crowned.”

For all Fall 2022 StorySlams, doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the stories will begin at 7. Space can be tight, so buy an advance ticket for $10 HERE. If seats are available at the door, tickets are $12. “Stories may contain adult content, and some venues are 21+,” warns Ex Fabula.

Can’t afford a ticket? In the interest of equity and access, Ex Fabula will offer a number of free “pay it forward” tickets at the door for each event. Want to “pay it forward” yourself? Purchase some of those tickets and/or become an Ex Fabula member HERE.
