MILWAUKEE BUCKS CELEBRATE NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH WITH SERIES OF INITIATIVES IN JANUARY
Bucks forward Bobby Portis Jr. joining in to promote the importance of mentoring
MILWAUKEE (Jan. 2, 2023) – In support of National Mentoring Month, the Milwaukee Bucks are hosting a series of initiatives to promote the importance of mentoring and encourage members of the community to become mentors. The National Mentoring Month initiatives are part of the organization’s year-round mentor platform in collaboration with Bucks forward Bobby Portis Jr. and local community organizations.
“Mentoring is a crucial part of youth development,” said Bucks Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility Arvind Gopalratnam. “We are thrilled to support National Mentoring Month and encourage mentoring in the Milwaukee community.”
National Mentoring Month celebrations tip off on Jan. 2 with Underdog Conversations with Bobby Portis Jr., who is teaming up with MENTOR Greater Milwaukee and Gee’s Clippers to host a barber-shop style discussion with Milwaukee-area youth in single-family homes. These discussions are a part of four programs that Portis Jr. has committed to throughout the 2022-23 season to support mentoring-focused organizations.
On Jan. 17, MENTOR Greater Milwaukee will highlight its “Mentor of The Year,” “Program Partner of The Year” and inaugural “Educator of The Year” award recipients at their annual Mentor Symposium where Portis Jr. will be their keynote speaker. The Bucks are also inviting multiple local mentoring organizations to attend select home games during the month of January. These invitations are in addition to the season-long Bobby’s Crew program, where Portis Jr. has provided nine tickets, food vouchers and Underdog apparel for non-profit groups and organizations to attend Bucks games.
