Milwaukee’s Middle Eastern coffee shop expansion continues! This spring, Al-Hamawi—a Jordanian-based cafe chain that specializes in coffee, “Arabian sweets” and chocolate, nuts, olive oils, dried fruits, and more—will soon be opening a location on Milwaukee’s south side.

The forthcoming cafe will be taking root at 938 W. Layton, the former home of Kim’s Thai, which closed in September 2024. In addition to being Al-Hamawi’s first Milwaukee location, this site will also be the chain’s first store in all of Wisconsin. Al-Hamawi currently operates three cafes in Illinois, which are located in Bridgeview, Orland Park, and on the campus of Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills.
Milwaukee Business Journal says the new Al-Hamawi is expected to open in March. Stay tuned for more information on its opening and potentially a review once it’s up and running. Though we miss Kim’s Thai dearly, we’re excited to give Al-Hamawi a try.
