To begin….

Coffee would help us think.

Coffee and an Egg McMuffin from our favorite McDonald’s. The one on 1st and National.

We open on the trailer to Adaptation! You know, the fantastic 2002 Spike Jonze film we’re screening at the Avalon Atmospheric Theater on Wednesday, August 19 at 7 p.m.! Tickets are only $9, and are on sale NOW!

No! We open on a brief synopsis of the film! It’s a deliriously meta story that follows real-life screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (Nicolas Cage) and his not-so-real-life twin brother Donald (Nicolas Cage) as the former struggles to adapt a book from real-life author Susan Orlean (Meryl Streep) and the latter blunders his way through his own script about a serial killer or something!

No! We open on Chris Cooper, who plays real-life Florida horticulturist John Laroche—a.k.a. the subject of Orlean’s real-life book The Orchid Thief—and who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor!

No! We open on links to the generous sponsors of our monthly Avalon screenings: Lakefront Brewery, Gruber Law Offices, and Skilos: A Family Pet Store!

No, we open at the beginning of time!

NO! We open on Milwaukee Record! Old, washed, tired, repulsive, still hung over from last night’s screening of The Foot Fist Way and subsequent “Post Credit” party at Blackbird, struggling to write this article! AHHHHHHHH!

No. Maybe we just open on that clip where real-life lecturer Robert McKee (Brian Cox) totally blows up at Kaufman during a screenwriting seminar. Yeah, that scene is great. This whole movie is great. See you August 19!
