Today in things that will probably make you feel old comes the realization that Ghost World is turning 25 this year. Yes, the dark comedy and certified cult classic based on the Daniel Clowes comic by the same name was released way back in 2001. In honor of the film hitting the quarter-century mark and making us feel really old in the process, we’ve decided to screen Ghost World at Avalon Theater on Wednesday, March 18. Tickets are on sale NOW.

If you’re unfamiliar with Ghost World (or just need a reminder because it was released so, so long ago), this offbeat indie gem directed by Appleton native Terry Zwigoff stars Thora Birch and Scarlett Johansson—the latter in one of her first starring roles—as jaded teenage outcasts Enid and Rebecca, who are on the verge of graduation. As they face the reality of entering the real world and Enid develops an unlikely connection with a man named Seymour (played by Steve Buscemi), their friendship is tested. Brad Renfro and Illeana Douglas are also in it!

Though this subversive film didn’t exactly break any box office records, it has developed a passionate, ever-growing audience of appreciators over time. Are you one? If you want to celebrate Ghost World‘s 25th anniversary and see it on the big screen, we repeat: tickets are on sale NOW. As always, the 7 p.m. showing is sponsored by our friends at Lakefront Brewery, Gruber Law Offices, and Skilos: A Family Pet Store.
