Imagine this: You forgot to buy a present and/or make restaurant reservations for Valentine’s Day. Your significant other is…displeased. But a-ha! You did buy tickets ahead of time for our screening of the 2004 Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore romantic comedy 50 First Dates, which is happening on Wednesday, February 19 at the Avalon Atmospheric Theater. Now you look like the thoughtful, considerate, and loving partner you truly are! (Just say you wanted to avoid the “Valentine’s Day rush.”)
So yeah, 50 First Dates tells a tale as old as time: swinging bachelor marine veterinarian (Sandler) falls for beautiful art teacher with anterograde amnesia (Barrymore). Romantic hijinks—a.k.a. Sandler repeatedly having to woo Barrymore because she can’t remember him from day to day—ensue. Think of it like Groundhog Day, but set in Hawaii and starring the ’90s/’00s cinematic power couple from The Wedding Singer. Also, Sean Astin, Dan Aykroyd, and Rob Schneider are in it.
