Every Monday we publish a “Record Recommended” list of events, shows, and other shindigs coming up that week and weekend. You should check it out! Approximately 95% of the time when we see someone grumbling online about not knowing about a certain event, that event was included in “Record Recommended.” Go figure!

But, of course, we do miss stuff. This weekend is already plenty busy, but here’s info on two more events worth your time: a free screening and discussion of Chicago housing displacement documentary The Area at the Dr. Martin Luther King Community Center on Friday, February 23; and a Waukesha BluesFest-sponsored “Winter Blues Party” at the Waukesha Eagles Club on Sunday, February 25.

‘The Area’ FREE screening

The Area is a five-year odyssey of a South Side Chicago neighborhood, where more than 400 Black American families are being displaced by a multi-billion dollar freight company.

The film follows homeowner-turned-activist Deborah Payne, who vows to be “the last house standing,” and her neighbors as they maintain friendships and traditions while fighting for the respect they deserve.

Post-screening Discussion with:
• Deborah Payne, Co-Producer and Featured Activist
• David Schalliol, Director, Co-Producer, and Cinematographer
• Moderator, Marquise Mays, Milwaukee Film
