Milwaukee is blessed to have an overwhelming abundance of personality-laden, no-frills taverns situated on unassuming street corners and tucked away in neighborhoods. Riverwest is home to a bunch of bars that fit that description, including The Gig (1132 E. Wright St.). The self-described “Grateful Dead-themed bar with live music and psychedelic vibes” has been an unsung gem at the intersection of Wright and Dousman streets since 2001.

Now in the midst of a milestone anniversary, The Gig is planning to celebrate hitting the quarter-century mark with a full-fledged block party. On Sunday, June 28, “The Gig 25 Year Block Party” will bring a winning blend of food, drinks, live music, raffles, and yard games to the bar and the surrounding street. The event begins at noon and runs until 10 p.m.

As far as the entertainment goes, the music will kick off at 1 p.m. with a set by Midnight Hound, who will give way to Chicken Wire Empire at 3 p.m., Grateful Dead tribute act Another One at 5 p.m., and a TLALOK-led open jam that will run from 7:30 until 10 p.m. Celebrate 25 years of The Gig and save the date for the block party.
