Our fat-free, dolphin-safe Milwaukee events calendar is chock-full of things to do, but only a handful of events are worthy of the lofty honor of “Record Recommended” (patent pending). Here are our recommendations for April 29 – May 5, 2019.

TUESDAY, APRIL 30

Tuesday Tunes: Nickel&Rose @ Kindred On K.K.
Hey! It’s the season finale of our “Tuesday Tunes” series at Kindred On K.K. And who better to close things out than the incomparable Nickel&Rose? As always, there’s no cover for the show (which runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.), Kindred’s kitchen and bar will offer their full menu, and their Tuesday night happy hour (including $2 oysters and $5 old fashioneds) will last all night.

B~Free & Quinten Farr Duo @ Jazz Estate

Milwaukee Press Club Tony Evers Luncheon @ Turner Hall Ballroom

WEDNESDAY, MAY 1

Trapper Schoepp @ Anodyne Walker’s Point Roastery
Milwaukee troubadour Trapper Schoepp made big news in the waning days of 2018 when it was revealed that he had a.) taken some unfinished 1961 Bob Dylan lyrics for a song called “On, Wisconsin” and put them to music, and b.) received the blessing of Dylan himself, leading to an impossible-dream Dylan co-writing credit. Whoa! “On, Wisconsin” appears on Schoepp’s new album, Primetime Illusion. Tonight’s show, meanwhile, doubles as Schoepp’s birthday party and a U.S. tour sendoff.

Acoustic Open Stage: Pete Freeman @ Linneman’s Riverwest Inn

Vinyl Williams + Bum Alum, Yum Yum Cult, DJ Hear Here @ Cactus Club

THURSDAY, MAY 2

P!nk + Julia Michaels, DJ KidCutUp @ Fiserv Forum
It’s P!nk! On her Beautiful Trauma world tour! At Fiserv Forum! What more do you need to know? (Well, okay: the show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets range from $59 to $250.)

414 Live: Jay Anderson @ 88Nine Radio Milwaukee

Writer’s Round: Chris Porterfield + Martha Cannon, Joseph Huber, Sarah Vos @ Linneman’s Riverwest Inn

Old Time Relijun + Dorth Nakota, Aluminum Knot Eye, Gnarrenschiff @ Cactus Club

Barbaro + Chicken Wire Empire @ Anodyne Walker’s Point Roastery

FRIDAY, MAY 3

Stomata + B~Free @ Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts
Get ready to sit comfortably or dance beautifully in The Harris Theater at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts in Brookfield. Milwaukee’s own Jay Anderson returns from New Orleans to join forces with his mighty jazz trio, Stomata, and the one-and-only queen of Milwaukee R&B, B~Free. The concert also serves as a very special album release show (Stomata’s Crawfish And High Life) that will showcase the amazing sounds of both bands in one of the Milwaukee area’s premier music venues.

Peelander-Z + Me Like Bees, Hot Coffin, Credentials @ X-Ray Arcade

Them Coulee Boys + Driveway Thriftdwellers @ Anodyne Walker’s Point Roastery

SATURDAY, MAY 4

GeekCraft Expo Milwaukee @ Turner Hall Ballroom
Is it a coincidence that the national GeekCraft Expo is beaming into Milwaukee on May the 4th? (Sorry to mix franchises there.) Maybe, but any day is a good one for a “curated craft market specializing in handmade, ‘geek’-themed crafts of all kinds; clothing, accessories, toys, home decoration, furniture, art.” Also, admission is free if you pre-register! (Otherwise it’s a whopping $2 for folks 13 and over.)

Janet Planet + Mike Kubicki Group: Tribute To Nancy Wilson @ Jazz Estate

Cullah & The Comrades (record release) + Thriftones, Clear Pioneer @ Cactus Club

DELLA + Simon Ramiro @ Quarters Rock ‘n’ Roll Palace

The Exotics @ Pabst Milwaukee Brewery & Taproom

SUNDAY, MAY 5

FemFest Fundraiser: Peshtigo + Chris Porterfield, Vanity Plates @ Cactus Club
From May 26 through June 2, the fifth annual Riverwest FemFest benefit will celebrate the power of feminine empowerment with music, visual art, film and video, comedy and poetry, arts and crafts, and workshops. Tonight’s show is a fundraiser for the fundraiser, ensuring that all money made at the fest goes to this year’s beneficiaries, Diverse & Resilient and the Milwaukee Women’s Center.

Preacher Lawson @ Turner Hall Ballroom

Buckethead @ The Rave/Eagles Ballroom

GeekCraft Expo Milwaukee @ Turner Hall Ballroom
