As the reputation of Milwaukee’s culinary scene continues to grow, so has the amount of screen time that area restaurants and chefs receive on national food programs. Yes, we’ve come a long way since Comet Cafe’s cameo on Diners Drive-Ins, And Dives was local dining’s largest (and only?) claim to fame. In recent years, shows on Food Network, Food Channel, and Travel Channel’s Food Paradise program have featured an abundance of Milwaukee restaurants, including the likes of: Sobelman’s, Milwaukee Brat House, Old German Beer Hall, Five O’Clock Steakhouse, The Vanguard, Merriment Social, Kegel’s Inn. Actually, Comet even got a second go-round on air-waves a couple years ago.

This weekend, yet another Milwaukee food purveyor will see some screen time when the owners of Meat On The Street are featured on an episode of Food Network’s new series, Family Restaurant Rivals. The Valerie Bertinelli-hosted show will pit siblings/co-founders Alexa and Matt Alfaro against two other foodie families in a cooking competition with chance to take home $10,000.

According to the episode description, “in the first round, they must transform their best-seller into a taco combo. Then the remaining two families have to make a three-course meal using vanilla ice cream in each dish, working together to impress judges Christian Petroni, Courtney Rada and Jet Tila.”

You can see how Meat On The Street does when the episode airs at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 21. Otherwise, since they’ll be working when it originally airs, Meat On The Street is also hosting a viewing party at Milwaukee Brewing Company at 6 p.m. on Monday, September 23.
