Milwaukee Record is working in partnership with Urban Cat Coalition—a local organization that’s dedicated to creating a no kill community by humanely reducing the cat population in the Milwaukee area through targeted trap-neuter-return (TNR)—to help find loving homes for area cats. Each week, we plan to highlight a feline friend that’s currently up for adoption by naming it “Milwaukee Record’s Cat Of The Week.” This week: a big, sensitive boy called Ontario.
Meet Ontario (also known as Rio)! Rio is a big, sensitive boy who LOVES attention, lap time, kisses, and pettings. Although he loves cuddles, he also enjoys playing. He plays well on his own or with wand toys. He’ll greet you at the door when you get home and follow you around so he doesn’t miss out on a scritch or a game. If you need a loving companion who will keep you company, Rio is the boy for you.
He came to UCC as a kitten with his mama and five littermates. He was adopted out with a sibling at that time, but was returned three years later through no fault of his own. A neighbor’s indoor/outdoor cat had caused his brother to start beating him up due to something called “misplaced aggression.” Rio being a sweetheart, he wasn’t very good at defending himself. So although his family loved him very much, they decided it would be in his best interest to find a new family.
Medical notes: Rio has been diagnosed with asthma, but does well with his inhaler treatments. It’s just an inhaler placed over his mouth for eight breaths every three days or so. It takes a few seconds and he is used to it. It is not imperative to do it every three days, so taking a week vacation would not be a problem.
