Every Wednesday at noon, Ryan Schleicher, Evan Rytlewski, and Matt Wild take to the WMSE airwaves to discuss all things Milwaukee. This half-hour fun-fest is called The Disclaimer, so named because none of the oft-ridiculous views expressed on the show necessarily reflect the views of the hosts’ employers. Milwaukee music, Milwaukee art, Milwaukee events, and D.I.Y. lawn care tips are frequently discussed—and rarely agreed upon. The Disclaimer: Talk radio for the sane.

Read the physical or digital pages of any Milwaukee publication covering Milwaukee music—including this one—and you’ll likely see nothing but positive press. Every band and artist is incredible, and every new album and video is mind-blowing. But that’s not really the case, is it? Is the local music scene, in fact, treated with kid gloves? Does near-universal and hyperbolic praise of all things local do a disservice to the things that are actually worthy of that praise? Is there value in calling out lousy and uninspired local efforts, or should the media subscribe to a “If you can’t say anything nice…” policy? Inspired by a radio ad claiming Milwaukee’s food scene should be judged against the national food scene, as well as an excellent piece on negative album reviews from Tone Madison, Ryan, Evan, and Matt take off their own kid gloves and share their approaches to covering Milwaukee music. It’s their most epic, exhilarating, and accomplished discussion to date.
