Timeless power-poppers Surgeons In Heat have been fairly quiet since releasing their self-titled LP in 2012, which is well deserving of the No. 24 spot on our “50 best Milwaukee albums of the 2010s (so far)” list. Founding member and only original Surgeon still in residency, Johnathan Mayer, has been juggling his pet project while also playing bass for Jaill.

Recently, though, Mayer and company have put more attention into Surgeons In Heat. First, the band contributed a new song called “She’s Used To It” to Top Five Records’ The Sound Of Young Milwaukee comp. Yesterday, Surgeons streamed that song and another new cut, “May 28,” that’s right in the band’s breezy, functionally simplistic wheelhouse. Hopefully these new songs are a sign of more to come from a band we’ve missed.
