At the risk of Milwaukee Record becoming a full-on Sylvan Esso fan site, we’ve stumbled on a new version of the North Carolina band’s song “Wolf” on NPR. This version is of particular local relevance, as the video was captured during Alverno Presents’ “Nick Sanborn – Lend Me Your Voice” at the Milwaukee university last autumn.

While the event’s namesake’s face is absent from the video (he’s the one playing drums), Amelia Meath—the more vocal half of Sylvan Esso—is shown with members of Megafaun, Lambchop, and Field Report’s own Christopher Porterfield for an expanded-yet-subdued rendition of the song that would help the project be a Tonight Show-playing, Pabst Theater-worthy force less than a year later. Predictably, it’s great. Hopefully this will be enough to hold you over until Sylvan Esso comes to town to play and DJ September 5.
