Maybe the absence of a round numeral has something to do with it, but if there’s a dedicated celebration for Harley-Davidson’s 111th anniversary, we haven’t heard about it. Known for throwing both amazing parties that feature such talented legends as Elton John and tone deaf disasters that feature such talentless hacks as Elton John, Harley satisfied bikers during last year’s 110th birthday with performances by Aerosmith, The Doobie Brothers, Lynyrd Sknyrd, Common, ZZ Top, Lupe Fiasco, Joan Jett, Dropkick Murphys, and many more. With “Rally Weekend” (which usually coincides with the anniversary of the Milwaukee motorcycle magnate) right around the corner (August 28-September 1), it seems there’s nothing in the way of a true Harley-Davidson blowout in the cards this year. Still, the H-D Museum, a couple block parties, and bashes put on by area affiliates are picking up some of the slack left by the now-expected-yet-absent national music festival thrown by a local corporation.

Yes, last year’s Lynyrd Skynyrd booking is now represented by Lukyn Skywyrd, and ZZ Top isn’t here—but ZZ Top tribute band Eliminator is. Calliope and Chicken Wire Empire are playing a shitload, GGOOLLDD and Whips will extend their ongoing 2014 legends, and Cowboy Mouth will…do whatever Cowboy Mouth does that seems to work. Though there are still a few “National headliner TBA” slots left, we’re just going to assume they’ll be P.O.D. or Puddle Of Mudd or some shit and just post the rest of the non-anniversary-related Rally Weekend entertainment.
