Milwaukee musicians don’t seem to be wasting any time starting 2018 on a strong note. Adding to the handful of post-New Year releases and album announcements we’ve already seen in this young year is Faux Fiction. The punk-tinged garage rock trio will play the city’s first record release show of the year this weekend in support of their forthcoming EP, Dark Matter. Before the fuse of that five-song, 20-minute powder keg is lit on Saturday night, Faux Fiction is giving listeners a taste of what’s to come with a music video for “Skin,” the lead single on the band’s best release yet.

Directed by Eric Arsnow (Devils Teeth, ex-Tigernite), the video finds Faux Fiction playing their raucous new tune in their natural habitat: an unfinished basement. There, a grinning Gabby Kartz alternates between soft singing and emphatic screams as the rest of the band follows the lead of her guitar parts that invoke ’90s era grunge. Like “Skin” itself, the music video is simple and free of frills, but something you’ll want to return to over and over again.

Faux Fiction will release its Dark Matter EP at Company Brewing on Saturday, January 6. The show also features music from Rocket Paloma and For The Culture, comedy from Kaitlin McCarthy, and burlesque by Brew City Bombshells.
