In less than three weeks, Bay View will go from having zero dedicated sushi restaurants to boasting a whopping two sushi joints. Today, just 19 days after Sushi Go opened on the corner of Kinnickinnic and Oklahoma avenues, Hungry Sumo (2663 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) is preparing to open its doors. An employee at the business told Milwaukee Record the staff is putting the finishing touches on a few remaining things, and they’ll either open in time for Tuesday’s dinner service or “for sure tomorrow” (September 20).

Last December, the self-described “sushi bar and Asian bistro” announced plans to open in the KK and Lenox Street storefront that Cream City Swirl most recently called home. Hungry Sumo’s “pre-opening menu” features teriyaki bowls, donburi, nigiri, both classic and contemporary maki, veggie maki, and a full sushi bar. Prices vary from $4 starters to the $29.95 Hungry Set sushi platter.
